Art of Dining

Tuesday, June 5 | van der Kaay Residence

The Nathanial Lord Thompson house was built by one of Kennebunk’s most successful ship builders in 1842 and was designed by Housewright Beniah Littlefield. An example of the Greek Temple architectural style, it features a gabled roof with an enclosed pediment. On each end of the house is a portico formed by four Doric style-columns with delicately railed galleries inserted in the porticos. Today the main entrance is on the left side of the house. In the early part of the last century, Philip Andrews remodeled the interior and the exterior and it was again remodeled in the 1950s. Both times, the architectural integrity of the house was preserved. The charming yellow dining room has been the host to many lovely dinner parties.
